Experiments and Labs include information on differentiation, as well as high order reasoning questions. Suggestions for integrating technology in the documentation and presentation of student's work are also included. Water Jar - activity meant to demonstrate that water left in an opened container will “disappear” through the process of evaporation (Grade 1).

Formative Assessments

Georgia Automated Environmental Monitoring Network (AEMN) Scavenger Hunt - Students investigate current and past weather conditions using AEMN.

Emergency Preparedness Kit - Students develop an Emergency Preparedness Kit for use during an emergency.  Items may be drawn, or pictures may be cut out and pasted.

States of Matter - Demonstrate an understanding of the States of Matter with pieces of cereal or other small items.

Weather Portfolio - Template for students to monitor and record various weather conditions over a period of time. Includes opportunities for written expression and data analysis (Grade 1).

Cotton Clouds - provides a nice visual of location of clouds. The process reinforces math skills (ruler and measuring) and addresses those students with tactile needs (Grade 4).

Recipe for Rain - opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge of the factors and conditions for rain. For enrichment, ask students to write recipes for snow, hail, or sleet (Grade 4).

Weather Instruments

Instructions for the building of simple weather instruments so that students have the opportunity to collect their own data with tools they created.
